Cadet Proficiency Scheme

The purpose of the Cadet Proficiency Scheme is to encourage young people to take an interest in subjects outside their normal curricula and widen their horizon by carrying out these studies in their leisure time. In the early years the Scheme had slightly different subject groups. Subjects such as Cycling, Camping and Tracking were either removed or merged into other subjects. The twenty six subjects under the current Cadet Proficiency Scheme are grouped into five groups according to the nature of the  activities. The “Knowledge of the Order” is a compulsory subject for all cadets. Cadets must choose at least one and not more than three from each group. Each subject would be taught either by St. John Ambulance officers or external instructors from the relevant authorities.

Qualification for the Grand Prior Award:
1. Obtain 12 badges including the Knowledge of the order before 21st birthday

2. At least one and not more than 3 badges from each group

5. Be efficient for the year of getting the badges

Speech from the NEW Member In-Charge

Actually I never thought that I can be the mic. This is because previously I was actually avoiding them very much,so that they will not choose me.However,I don’t know why after that I became an active member again J . Maybe because I don’t want st john to be in such a mess.As I promised,I will try to make next year different from this year, but I still need cooperations from all of my darling members J because without them, I might never be success next year.

Sharing of Experience

We are proud to have two of the members to share about their experience in the First Aid Competition.

When my senior told me that I am involved in this competition, I have no idea about what is this competition. But my senior told me is just to go for it and get some experience. However, joining the competition let me learned many things not just experience. I have learnt a lot more advanced first aid knowledge that I did not learnt it in class or books.

During the training for the competition, me and my teammates had faced many problem such as different opinions, and parents’ constraint and some of us did not give full cooperation. However, we did our best and we managed to solve those problems.

During the competition it was tiring. On the first day, it was the foot-drill competition.  It was a great experience to walk a long journey home. Even though it was quite dangerous, but it helped us to build our teamwork. After we arrived home it was at the stroke of midnight. We burned the midnight oil to discuss what to do on the next day. On the next day, it was the short case and home nursing. It was very important to keep a cool head. If not, you will be desperate and you could not finish your job well.

Although we had lost the competition, but we never lose our heart. So, if you are interested in the competition, please join us next year.

I was very surprise and scared when I was informed by my senior that I will join the First Aid and Foot drill Competition because I know nothing about it. I became more scared and surprise when I was chosen to be the team leader. I know that it will not be that easy to be the team leader as I am not a good one. I cried many times after the training because of many serious or minor problems (I think). However, we managed to solve all the problem just in time.

You will learn many things throughout this competition such as teamwork, try to understand your teammates’ burden and try not to give too much stress to them! Competition is very fun if you know how to enjoy it ~ I had missed a chance but I hope the others will not miss it.

I would like to take this opportunity to say SORRY to my teammates for making them so disappointed and THANK YOU to those who had helped us! But I hope everyone will remember that the main reason for joining this competition is to gain more experience to teach the next batch of juniors who is interested. Don’t ever expect too much because you will be very disappointed if you did not reach your target!
