St John Ambulance compiles special book

KUALA LUMPUR: In conjunction with more than a century of service in Malaysia, St John Ambulance has come out with a book describing its rich 102-year-old history.

The limited edition book, titled A remarkable century of service, showcases the best of more than 10,000 photos and material highlighting the movement.

“Those involved with St John Ambulance have indirectly encouraged positive values. This establishment will continue to be a good platform to build good character among youths,” said Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah in his speech before launching the book here yesterday.

The Sultan also advised parents to enrol their children with St John Ambulance.

“This is an organisation that deserves recognition and appreciation from the public,” he added.

Meanwhile, St John Ambulance commander-in-chief Datuk Dr Low Bin Tick said the most challenging part throughout the production of the book was sourcing for the material in whatever forms.“We then took months to just sift through the material,” he said in his speech.

Only 1,500 copies of the book, priced at RM200, will be printed.

Those interested to purchase a copy can call St John Ambulance administrator Ms Chwa at 03-3373 5005.

Dear All

Dear All,

I think this year (2010) is a fruitful year to our Cadet and Adult Divisions. Why i said so?

Firstly, Cadet Division has won and be the Champion for 4 consecutive years in Footdrill Competition at school. I think non of the uniform bodies can break this record in school!

Secondly, with the leadership by Brian Low. Again, Ambulans Cadet has won the 1st Runner Up in Regional Competition 2010.

Now, our Ambulans Adult Mr. Brian Low Hung Meng has once again achieved a remarkable achievement in 52th National Competition 2010 yesterday at PULAPOR.

He has won the 2nd Runner Up in Written Test for Ambulans Adult Category. Congratulations to him for his wonderful performance in National, Regional and division level.

It has proven that, Perseverance, Enthusiatic, Never give up, Patient, Interest and Willing to learn are the keys of Success.
Therefore, all members shall take them as a role/ an example to go more higher in your personal growth or achievement.
Without moving forward your 1st step foot, you will not know the better and the greatness of tomorrow.

The results are came from all sort of trainings.
Hereby, I hope all members either Cadet or Adults should go for any training, seminar or course that organised by regional or division.
You won't regret one day in future!

On behalf of divisions, I should thank to Dr. Kiew his generous, kind and continuously support to us (divisions). Without the formation of KL No. 5 CAD by him and his advises. I think we will not be here today. All of us won't meet up in this group!

Back to 2005 (during Qin Cheong's era), I still can remember of Doctor Kiew saying , "Members should be trained in all aspects - time management, personal growth and etc....." Now, i am sure we have slowly achieved of what Dr. Kiew's anticipating to.

Of course, the co-operation and understanding among the divisions' committee and members should not be left out. You are the asset and property to the divison. You are the GREAT!

Last but not least, let us move a big step further to the better tomorrow for Cadet and Adult Divisions.

Thank you.

From,
Mr. Marcus Yee Kar Hing

Tyremaker chips in to help out SJAM

From StarMetro, Tuesday 11 May 2010:

AS part of its continued commitment to the community, Goodyear Malaysia has contributed tyres to the St John’s Ambulance Malaysia (SJAM) for the Pantai Selangor area.

The tyres will be fitted on SJAM’s Toyota Hiace ambulances.

A total of 20 Goodyear 195R15C DuraSport 16 185R14C G28 were given to SJAM as part of Goodyear’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives.

This support has been going on for more than five years and serves as recognition of SJAM’s work within the community.

Under Goodyear’s community outreach programme, support can be extended in the form of grants, sponsorships, in-kind donations and volunteer opportunities for Goodyear associates.

“SJAM has been a long-time recipient of our philanthropic efforts because we believe that the services they provide are an important facet to the development of the local community.

“These services translate to the prevention of harm and help save lives,” Goodyear Malaysia managing director Nasution Abdul Rahman said.

SJAM is one of the oldest NGOs in Malaysia and promotes the teaching of First Aid and related health care issues to the community.

The organisation carries out projects like mass Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training, Citizen Action and Response in Emergencies (CARE) and just last year announced its First Aider Training Project designed to place a first aider in every home across the country.

“Through their support, we have been able to ease a significant portion of our financial burden,” SJAM chief operating officer Datuk Bernard Yeo Kim Thong said.

Over the years, Goodyear has aided organisations like the Spastic Children’s Association, the Malaysian Association for the Blind, the Independent Living & Training Centre, the National Kidney Foundation and Mercy Malaysia.
