As the foot drill coordinator of 2009/2010 in our school St John society, I am very grateful to have this opportunity to say a little here.
Actually, I'm still new in holding this post when I found out that I am going to lead our foot drill team in the foot drill competition during Hari Koko. At first, I was really blank - what is my role? and I even questioned myself why I'm the one doing this job.
One of my seniors answered me, “because you are the new foot drill coordinator after the AGM meeting, so do your best”. Ha! Now, I really had to try my best to know and memorize all the commands.
First, I have to gather enough manpower for the foot drill team. Thanks to the help of some AJK, I managed to gather enough people to join the foot drill team.
Next, I have to train the members who are still new in foot drill, from the start to the end. I find that patience is very important in teaching a person. Other than that, I am grateful because some seniors are willing to stay back to help me in training.
We only had 2 weeks time for training and time was really short. Hence, co-operation among team members is very important in order to win the competition. I really hope that next time those who come for foot drill training will be more disciplined so that the training can be started earlier and also end earlier.
Besides, we had problem with the uniform. Although the manpower is enough for the foot drill, but the number of uniforms is not enough because quite a lot of them haven’t passed for their BFA exam yet. I hope that all of them will pass the BFA exam this year and become a qualified member.
During the competition day, I made a little mistake but the co-operation among the team impressed me. They all can slow down their speed but not their step in order to let me shout my command easier after the mistake. Finally, we managed to get second place even though we don't have enough experience in this competition.
Lastly, I want to thank all the seniors, AJK, members and my friends who helped me or participated in the foot drill competition. Thank you!
